AAs we bed down for the festive season and switch off the laptops and Kindles for a few days, we wanted to not only wish you all the very best over Christmas and New Year, but take this opportunity to look back at all that’s happened in this, our first, year – and to also give you a sneak peak of some of the amazing things coming your way in 2019.
2018 has been a busy old year for us: Burning Chair has gone from a mere twinkle in our eyes, to a mewling newborn, to a fully-fledged toddler taking its first steps into the world.
We still have to pinch ourselves that as a company we’re still only six months old. It has been an amazing adventure and we’re looking forward to the next six, and the next, and the next…!
But, we hear you cry, what have you actually achieved in those first six months?
Well, apart from a funky website and logo, and our first anthology (Burning: An Anthology of Short Thrillers – see below), we are most excited about signing two new authors…Georgia Springate and Neil Lancaster.
Georgia is an exciting new writer in the final year of her English Literature degree at The Open University – she’s looking forward to wearing a big gown and one of those funny hats come June. She lives in a crazy house in Bedfordshire, crammed full of eight members of her family, three dogs, a lizard and a tortoise!
When she’s not hunched over a laptop writing, Georgia can be found with her nose in a book reading everything from Cecilia Ahern to Voltaire, with a particular fondness for JK Rowling – because, let’s be honest, where would any of us be without JK Rowling?
We are immensely proud to announce that Georgia’s debut novel What’s Beyond will be published in January / February 2019 by Burning Chair Publishing. What’s Beyond is a touchingly compelling coming-of-age story, an emotional journey through one boy’s quest to understand that most terrifying and compelling of questions: what’s beyond this life?
You can read an exclusive extract from What’s Beyond by clicking on this link: https://bookhip.com/DFFBVC – and be the first to find out when it’s released.
We’re really excited about this – we fell in love with the book as soon as we read it, and we’re sure you all will too.
Neil served over thirty years in law enforcement in the both military and Metropolitan Police, where he worked in a number of detective roles investigating serious and organised crime. He chased murderers, human traffickers, fraudsters and drug dealers.
Neil now lives in the Scottish Highlands where he spends his time writing crime fiction influenced by his experiences.
Burning Chair Publishing is immensely proud to be publishing Neil’s debut novel, Going Dark, in early 2019. Going Dark is a no-holds-barred thriller introducing DS Tom Novak as a police officer with a dark past and a unique set of skills. Novak is plunged into a deadly underworld of people trafficking and war criminals as an undercover operation goes badly wrong. With even his own colleagues against him, Novak is forced to Go Dark until he can uncover who—if anyone—he can trust.

Burning: An Anthology of Short Thrillers
What else did we achieve this year? Well, we were extremely blessed to be able to hook up with a group of uber-talented authors for our inaugural short story collection: Burning, An Anthology of Thriller Shorts. Each and every writer in that collection is a solid gold gem and they have produced a set of stories which we are rightly incredibly proud of. If you haven’t already, you can get hold of a copy of Burning by clicking here or by heading to any of your favourite bookstores.
Here’s to 2019!
We are incredibly excited as we look forward to 2019. Our adventure into bringing great fiction into the world is gathering yet more pace and we look forward to sharing and engaging with you all.
Thanks to all those who submitted stories to us: we genuinely do enjoy reading each and every one of them. If you weren’t successful this year, please don’t be disheartened and don’t ever give up on your dreams. We look forward to all the great pleasures that 2019 will bring.
Until then, from all of us at Burning Chair, we would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, all the best for the festive season, and an extremely happy Hogmanay!
From all of us at Burning Chair
