BBurning (adj) – on fire; very hot or bright; very keenly or deeply felt; intense; of urgent interest or importance; exciting…
Burning (noun) – An Anthology of 14 thrilling stories by 14 outstanding authors.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that our first anthology has now been published. Burning: An Anthology of Short Thrillers is now available on Amazon and is currently on offer for a very limited time at only £/$0.99.
The Anthology is the result of bringing together a collection of hugely talented thriller authors. Each one of them has brought their own distinctive style with the only link between the stories being the concept of Burning. Burning evokes so many emotions: it represents destruction to some, whilst for others it provides a Phoenix-like new beginning.
And a fresh beginning sums up Burning Chair Publishing. We started the company because we were two indie authors looking for a different way to do things; offering authors a fair and alternative way to get great books out to expectant readers. One of the questions we are often asked is: “Why Burning Chair? Where did you get that name from?”
There’s a long and a short answer to that one. The long answer contains lots of head-scratching, wine, branding theory, more wine, and Pete getting bored during brainstorming sessions involving Simon’s endless mood boards… The short answer, though, is that for us the phrase “Burning Chair” perfectly captured what we were trying to achieve: a fresh, exciting, innovative approach to getting great stories out to grateful readers. Stories which are so amazing, so immersive, that you would carry on reading even if your chair was on fire.
And that’s what the Burning Anthology provides; 14 totally immersive stories that challenge and make your think….
In Craig Hart’s Loose Ends (A Simon Wolfe Short Story), a wise-cracking PI finds himself at the center of a deadly—and highly personal—case.
In Fiona Campbell’s From a Flicker to a Flame, a woman finds herself trapped, a prisoner of a loveless marriage, with only fire as a way out.
The Five Votive Candles of Joe Wray, by Simon Bewick, is a tale of brotherly love and betrayal; asking the question: is blood really thicker than water?
A mysterious man sparks unexplainable fires in Carla Day’s Scintillation, where the dreams of a woman may be the clue to saving the world.
The dark side of the City of London is exposed in Will Patching’s Old Flame, a tale of lust, greed and a decidedly nasty twist.
The repercussions of the Iraq war and memories of WMDs plague the characters of Dana Lyons’ Fire and Brimstone, with a weapon which could truly be the end of all things.
In Ava Edison and the Burning Man by Marcus Cook, a thief with an unlikely accomplice faces a race against time to get a priceless jewel for a ruthless client.
Tom Goymour’s Circle of Friends finds a man and his long-forgotten friends being forced to finally confront the mistakes of their youth.
In Peter Ellis’ Reprogrammed, a woman wakes in a strange warehouse with terrifying new abilities, with no knowledge of how she got there.
The hero of Michael Peirce’s Accidental Operator unwittingly becomes the key part of a new, highly deadly team of mercenaries.
Valley of the Shadow by Pat Moore is a moving exploration of love and loss.
Lori Lacefield’s The Fire Keeper follows Frankie Johnson, an FBI Profiler, as she tries to unpick a terrifyingly macabre fire ritual, before the killers strike again.
Free will, morality and redemption lie at the heart of Simon Finnie’s Burning, as a Professor is forced to confront the mistakes of his youth.
And finally, in Peter Oxley’s Burning Greed, a thief simply has to battle through a burning island to seal the score of his life: what could possibly go wrong?
